Oxfordshire Wool Hub

A commitment to British wool

The Oxfordshire Wool Hub is where wool and wool education for all are at the centre of all we do. We want British wool to make it from shearing shed into peoples homes and for everyone to be paid fairly along the way.

Looking to the future

Wool is an amazing fibre that can be used in so many areas of life and we want to see it restored to its former glory and beyond. It grows locally to virtually everyone in the UK, it stores carbon, it is naturally fire retardant and at the end of its life returns back to the earth leaving no microplastics behind. Many of us have lost understanding of wool and how to grow the best wool, how to use and care for it. We are looking to bring this knowledge back to everyone.

We aim to do this with the following projects

The hub

A central place where our various projects are gathered for you to explore and join. We will host our resource centre here for producers, consumers and those curious about wool. Whether you are choosing a more suitable breed of sheep for your land or you are trying to determine the best fleece for your designer clothing line. Even for primary and secondary teachers we have resources lined up!

The shop

From monthly pop up to markets, shows and more. When we have the mill up and running we hope that our shop will become a firm part of it and showcase some of the best local fibre around

The Wool Mill

A longer term project to establish a wool Mill in Oxfordshire and take raw fleeces through to finished items. Be that fibre, yarn or clothing and other textiles

Talks

We regularly hold or are invited to talk to a wide variety of audiences about wool, growing it and processing it into yarn and textiles. Discuss the challenges and highlights and in doing so hope to inspire more people to bring wool back into daily life

Workshops

From washing and spinning to choosing the right sheep for fleece quality and everything in-between. Groups are limited in size to ensure everyone is able to get to grips with the material.

Consulting

Whether you are looking to understand the wool you have and make money from it or improve any aspect of your wool processing we are available to support you.
